In the wake of surfacing of massive number of covert recordings, allegedly recorded by the State Security Service, featuring leaders of the Georgian Orthodox Church, PM Irakli Garibashvili issued a threatening statement that may signal harsher measures against the opposition.

Once the elections are over, there will be zero compromises and “everyone will receive adequate treatment. All the conspirators, traitors and the enemies of our state and the Church,” the PM said.

Again, pointing to the opposition and referring to the recordings scandal, he also stated that "this is another filthy provocation against our state and church.”

Later that day, GD faction chair in Parliament Mamuka Mdinaradze said UNM soon planned to publicize of personal life footages, triggering fears that personal videos of public figures might soon be released by the Government itself.

GD chairman and former speaker Irakli Kobakhidze also announced should any further leak take place UNM will be responsible, also referring to Mtavari TV CEO, Nika Gvaramia and prominent journalist from TV Pirveli Natia Trapaidze as “perverts.”
